Fair Dinkum…say who?

22 Jan
If you’re like me, (that is to say: not an Aussie), you’re thinking “fair what”? Fair dinkum, as described by the creator of the gorgeous Fair dinkum award – that’d be the kindly Denise Austin of L’Aussie Writing –  in America speak, means “true blue”. Jai Joshi, of Jai Joshi’s Tulsi Tree, believes I am true blue enough to deserve the Fair Dinkum Award.

Thank you Jai! I feel so blessed and honored that you believe I’m worthy of the L’Aussie Fair Dinkum Award!
Here are the rules of acceptance: Recipients of this L’Aussie Fair Dinkum award are asked to:
•post on your blog, linking back to Denise if you’re pleased to receive the award
•pass the award onto the ‘fair dinkum’ bloggers in your life – as many/few as you like
OPTIONAL: Write a blog post on your thoughts about being fair dinkum but please link back to Denise so she can read it!
I always appreciate it when others think of me and decorate my Awards Page with pretty buttons, but there’s something about this one that just feels more special than most. The fact that anyone considers me a true blue kinda gal, that I’m genuine, honest, and down-to-earth makes me sit back and take notice, it humbles me, and we should all be humbled now and then.
I’ve been blessed enough in my life to know many people – friends, family, co-workers, acquaintances, complete strangers – that are fair dinkum, and I appreciate that gift very much. After all, don’t the majority of us know more who are the direct opposite of fair dinkum, as opposed to those we know who are?
I’d like to recognize someone today who I hardly know, (indeed, I’m sure she doesn’t remember me at all), but that we all know of, who is one of the most fair dinkum people on the face of the earth: Oprah Winfrey.

Yes, she’s a gazillionaire, yes, the majority of us envy her, but how many people do you know who flat-out can’t stand her? I know of none, and that’s rare when it comes to well-known celebrity-types; think of any celebrity and I bet you’ll recall at least one time when the world couldn’t stand them. But I’ve never heard that about Oprah, never. That’s because she is a true blue, highly generous soul. She has all that fame and money because she has worked her hind-end off for it, and she deserves every penny, not just because she did work her hind-end off, but more because she shares the wealth. Some of you may remember that I was a guest on the Oprah Winfrey Show, (you can read that story, The Gravy Bowl Girl, on my [now defunct] site, Deanna’s Happy Accidents, here). Oprah did something incredibly nice for me, but I’m only one of millions who she has helped, and my need, (sentimental as it is to me), was miniscule in comparison to most of those others. Oprah Winfrey is one of the most generous souls in the world. I can’t think of any other person [who is known to so many] that is more deserving of all the riches that await her beyond this material life, and I hope and pray she gets every drop of that wealth.
Now, to pass the Fair Dinkum Award on to another true blue soul, one who may not be as well-known or as rich as Oprah, but who, in my opinion, deserves to be…..da-da-da-da – I pass this award on to one of the most fair dinkum bloggers in the land…..da-da-da-da….

The Fair Dinkum Award goes to:

Paige Vonliber of Paradise Valley 2….Hell’s Mountain and over the edge

Paige is not only a wonderful writer, not to mention a hoot! – she is one of the most fair dinkum people I’ve ever known. She’s kind, she’s down-to-earth, she’s a sweetheart, she’s…well, fair dinkum. Now if only someone would make her rich….I’m sure she’d appreciate it very much. So get on over to Paige’s place and give her everything you can, even if it’s just a measly standing ovation, she’ll accept it with enthusiastic gratitude, I’m sure.

Thank you again Jai, and thank you Denise! I love my Fair Dinkum Award!

Coming Soon: This Tuesday, January 25, we continue our celebration of International Creativity Month by recognizing the 129th anniversary of Virginia Woolf’s birth, A Room of One’s Own Day, with an excerpt of my essay, Virginia Woolf: Intelligence Personified. I hope you can stop in!

My bookshelf has been updated with the latest reads: Sourland ~ Stories, by Joyce Carol Oates, and One More for the Road, by Ray Bradbury. Have you read these masterpieces? Come on over and let’s talk about them!

Thanks Lydia! Oprah is a sweetheart of a woman isn’t she? I’m honored to have known her personally, if only for a few minutes.

Paige, maybe you will one day sit on the same couch with Oprah – physically that is. For now, bask in the glory, you deserve it!
Thanks so much for being you!
